Shaw's New Internet Data Centre Can Accommodate All Email, Webspace and High-Speed Connectivity for All Shaw@Home Customers
Shaw Communications Inc. (NYSE:SJR) (CDNX:SJR.A) (TSE:SJR.B) announced today that there will be no impact to the quality of service provided to its high-speed Internet customers as a result of financial concerns with the @Home Corp. in Redwood City, California.
Shaw has been proactive in building its fiber-optic network, provisioning systems and with the launch of its new Internet Data Centre last month, is currently in a position to provide all existing customers and new customers with a complete suite of services. Services include: email, webspace, domain hosting, high-performance network, secure connections, broadband content and 24 hour customer service.
"Two years ago, Shaw recognized that we needed to take control of our Internet distribution network and develop our own infrastructure. At the same time, our confidence in @Home as a principal part of our Internet infrastructure was in doubt," said Jim Shaw, CEO of Shaw Communications Inc. "We've invested heavily in this regard and are now seeing tangible results. We're not just talking the talk, we're taking action to benefit our customers."
These investments include $274 million in developing Shaw's own superior fibre Internet backbone and $56 million in upgrading and expanding its high-speed cable modem network - all with the objective of providing the best high speed Internet service for their customers.
