How Does It Work?
By optimizing the MTU & MSS settings along with the RWIN and TTL
settings you can increase dial-up modem connection reliability and
performance by as much as 200%. Modem Max also sets several other vital
values in your system so you can accept data at much higher rates than
defaults values allow.
Why do the default values need to be changed? Let us explain MTU
settings as an example. By default, Windows hard codes the value of MTU
to 1500 bytes. This value is adequate for normal LAN networking, but if
you are using a modem connection, this is too high. This will affect
your network performance in different situations, and the network
performance is far less than peak. By adjusting this value in order to
match the specific requirements of a modem connection, huge performance
gains can be achieved.
Operating Systems Compatibility
ModemMAX is compatible with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT4.0, 2000 and
XP. ModemMAX can automatically detect your OS type to make some
OS-specific tweaks.
